Spring has sprung here in Lake Norman, which means summer is right around the corner, which means it’s almost fall.

Okay, I know it’s a stretch, but honestly, it’s always autumn in my soul. The trees around Lake Norman are a picturesque combination of red, orange, and yellow leaves, and daytime temperatures rarely drop below 60 degrees. As a resident and realtor, I can assure you that it’s heaven.

If you’re moving to North Carolina in the next few months, get ready because we have a “go big or go home” policy about fall. Our local farms give it their all for the season, and there are numerous family-friendly attractions that you won’t want to miss.

The first stop I always recommend is Hodges Family Farm & Pumpkin Patch in Charlotte. Besides pumpkins, it features barn animals, a hay mountain, a hayride, and lots of photo ops. (They also run a year-round farmer’s market, so if you’re already here, check it out!)

If you have kids, Country Days Corn Maze is another must-visit. They actually have two mazes: “The Big Maze” and “The Little Ears Maze” (perfect for kids ten and under). Country Days also offers a corn cannon, an augmented reality scavenger hunt, barn animals, sack races, a tire mountain, and tons of other activities to get your family in the spirit of the season.

Meanwhile, out at Almond Farm in Concord, kids can enjoy a haystack pipe slide, a corn maze, barn animals, a jump pad, and more. They also offer axe-throwing, which is a huge hit with teenagers.

And speaking of older kids, if you’re looking for something a little spookier this fall, check out Scarrigan Farms in Mooresville. Ages 12 and up can experience the scariest haunted trail in the region, complete with heart-pumping ghosts and ghouls.

For even more Halloween fun, head to Bohemian Cattle Co. in Sherrills Ford. This new venue, which includes a restaurant, disc golf, fishing, gold mining, and more, is introducing Haunted Woods to guests. Of course, if you don’t feel like being spooked, the restaurant is a great place to enjoy lunch, dinner, ice cream, or a local craft beer.

But if, after journeying through the Haunted Woods, you still haven’t had your fill of the creeps, I also recommend SCarowinds in Charlotte. It’s located inside Carowinds, our favorite amusement park, and is recognized as the largest and most intricate haunted attraction in the city. Not for children under 13 (or the faint of heart).

So, mark your calendar, put on your costume, and grab a friend. When you’re in the Lake Norman area, every autumn is one to remember. Whether you prefer a peaceful barnyard atmosphere or the hubbub of a Halloween party, we have you covered. Get out there and have some fun!
